Introduction to Hailun Experimental Station of Agricultural Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
1 Name of Station :Hailun Experimental Station of Agricultural Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences
2 History
Hailun Experimental Station of Agricultural Ecology(HESAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) was set up in June, 1978, and it belongs to the former Heilongjiang Institute of Agricultural Modernization, CAS. It has become a comprehensive research station after more than ten years' development. In 1988, the station was identified by Chinese Ecosystem Research Network of CAS as one of the key field stations for long-term resources-ecology-environment observation and experiment.
In March, 2002, the former Heilongjiang Institute of Agricultural Modernization, CAS and Institute of Changchun Geography, CAS were integrated into one institute which named North-east Institute of Geography and Agricultural Ecology, CAS, as one of the experimental units of innovation engineering.
3 Natural conditions, including information on administrative location (province and county), geographical location (longitude and latitude), elevation, vegetation type for stations with natural vegetation or crops for agricultural stations, soil, climate etc.
HESAE is located in Hailun City, Heilongjiang Province of China, at 47?6 N and 126?8' E, with an altitude of 240 meters above sea level.
The vegetation types are farm crops, including soybean, wheat, maize, potato, beet and broomcorn etc.
The soil types are typically medium layer of black soil(phaeozem);
the climate is in continental temperate monsoon zone. It is dry and cold in winter, warm and rainy in summer, and the rain and the heat take place in same season. Annual average temperature is 1.5 with maximum 37 and minimum -39.5 . Annual precipitation reaches 500-600mm, 68% of which mainly occurs from May to September. Annual sunshine lasts 2600-2800 hours and Annual frost-free period about 130 days.
4. Long-term objectives In line with the international agroecological development and the need of national food security, HESAE aims at developing the monitoring approaches for ecological and environmental elements in black soil(phaeozem)HESAE adopts the black soil(phaeozem)l agro-ecosystem as the main discipline, ,covering its structure and function; the mechanism and way for increasing its productivity; the impact and its aftereffect of human production activities; establishment of Information Management System; as well as the technical solutions for the sustainable development of regional agriculture and the key issues research.
5 Tasks
The mission of HESAE is to provide long-term, systematic and reliable monitoring information and basic data for CERN and national ecosystem research, according to the character of black-soil (phaeozem) agro-resource and the problem with utilizing of which in north-east of China, with the use of agro-ecological methods and long-term observations, the station aims to further study the interactions among soil-crop-environment, mechanism of agro-ecology, pattern of ecological succession process, characteristics of nutrient and water cycling, power mechanism and their relationships with productivity and the ways of their regulation and control, so as to provide scientific basis, optimized demonstration model and supporting techniques for rational utilization of resources, land management and development of sustainable agriculture with high-yield, high-quality and high-efficiency.
