Program Manager and expert of OISE visited Sanya station

March 14th-16th, Dr. William YB Chang, and Dr. Thomas W. Chapman, Program Manager and expert of Office of International Science & Engineering (OISE), National Science Foundation (NSF) respectively, accompanied by Andrew A. Griffin, the vice-consul of the United States Consulate General in Guangzhou, were invited to visit Sanya sation.

Dr, Dong Junde, vice head of the station, welcomed the guests and gave the introduction about the station on facilities, ecological environment monitoring, research progress, demonstration achievements and data accumulation and sharing, specially demonstrated on the characteristics of tropical sea ecosystem - coral reef of Sanya Bay and adjacent waters, its distribution, status and research progresses were highlighted. Dr. Zhou Weihua, associate processor of the station, also introduced his research progress.

This visiting on the one hand is to know the status of the coral reef ecosystem of Sanya Bay and adjacent waters, more importantly, to know the status quo of research in Sanya station to evaluate the cooperation possibility between two countries on the tropical waters ecosystem, to try to establish a research platform.

The two sides discussed on how to strengthen future cooperation in related fields, exchanged views on both interested research field, and hope the scientists and student exchanges in this year as a starting point to further strengthen the cooperation in related fields of research and information exchange, to promote the research and technology development.

During the visiting, the guests also visited the observation sites for ecological networks, the coral reefs experiment site, the mangroves experiment site, the coral reefs laboratory and the sea water Spirulina breeding demonstration site.

Sayan station is a marine ecosystem site of The Chinese National Ecological Network (CNERN) and Chinese Ecosystem Research Network (CERN) , is located on at Sanya city, Hainan province, basics research focus is researches and demonstration of structure function and dynamical character of tropical coastal ecosystems.
