Recently, a scientists and students group of 14, from Department of Plant and Soil sciences, Oklahoma State University (USA), led by Professor Hailin Zhang and Jiff Hatty, has been visited Yingtan national agro-ecosystem research station.
Dr. Jing Zhou, deputy of the station, welcomed the guests on behalf of Dr. Bo Sun, head of station, and Dr. Xin Jiang, the deputy director of the Nanjing Institute of Soil ,China Academy of Science, which Yitan station belong to. The guests visited the experimental sites and indoor laboratories. Dr. Jing Zhou and Professor Zhang Bin gave the introduction of the station and the research progress of on-going projects respectively.
May 19th, on the invitation of YinTan city " agricultural talent association ", Dr. Hailin Zhang gave a presentation. There were about 150 participants. Beginning with a brief introduction of agricultural development of the United States, Professor Hailin Zhang elaborated how the United States fully use of modern technology to realize agricultural mechanization, to establish propagating channels for agricultural information, to strengthen the agricultural credit and loans, to carry out soil formula testing and so on. At the same time, he stressed on how the united States strengthen the transformation of the agricultural achievements. Audience were very interested in the talk and asked many questions. This presentation will benefit Yintan city's decision makers on how to promote local agricultural development.
Led by Dr. Jing Zhou, the guests visited the surrounding eco-agriculture demonstration sites and farms; In addition, they visited The Dragon-Tiger National Geological Park, observed and discussed on the geological phenomena.
During the visit, a basketball match was carried out between the two side graduates students,which promote the understanding among them.
P.S: Dr. Hailin Zhang has been elected as a Soil Science Society of America Fellow for 2009. Dr. Zhang is an internationally recognized scientist and this honor is one for which he is most deserving. Congratulation to him!
