Recently, the University of Nevada professor Robert S. Nowak was invited to visit Shapotou Desert Research Station of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Dr.Nowak visited the Baotou-Lanzhou railway artificial protection system, water balance observation site as well as farmland comprehensive observation site, and labs. He was impressed by the research achievement on moving-sanddune control, restoration of vegetation, biological soil crust, as well as water balance. He believes there are a lot of similarities in research between Sapotou station and the University of Nevada and good prospects for cooperation. Subsequently, Dr. Nowak gave a presentation "Global climate change and desert ecosystems" and an introduction on research progress of his research team on the global response to climate change of the desert ecosystem, and had discussion with station research staff on this subject.
During the visit, Dr.Nowak had deep discussion with Dr. Xinrong Li, the director of Shapotou station, in all aspects such as cooperative research, joint personnel training and etc.
